Intimate weddings can still be dramatic and breathtaking thanks to Black Barn’s tiny but exceptional venue, The River Room. Architecturally-designed and perched on a cliff overlooking the Tukituki River and facing the iconic Te Mata Peak range, this is undoubtedly the one of the best small nz wedding venues you could possibly find. The single-room space has a rustic but luxe feel and everything is easy here, with the ceremony space flowing directly into the reception room with it’s cliff-top lawn. Perfect for larger walk-and-fork receptions or more intimate sit-down dinners of up to about 50 people, this is my pick if you’re after small on numbers but big on wow factor. If you’re local Hawke’s Bay wedding photographer and know which farmer to talk to, there are multiple locations that offer spectacular views down the valley and incoporating Te Mata Peak. Bring on sunset!
