‘Pain and pleasure, like light and darkness, succeed each other’ said Laurence Sterne. No one understands that quite like an excited bride and groom who are waiting on the first look at their wedding photos.

For that reason, we always have a workflow that puts a priority on getting some of our first favourites edited and back to our couples within a few days of the wedding. Andrew is the whizz-kid who edits our weddings, while I’m the one who reviews around 3,000 images we’ve shot together and selects around 750 to create the full collection. Of those, I’ll land on about 20 that I especially love and can’t wait to play with and develop further in Lightroom (our edit software). Our edit stye is responsive to each individual wedding and the unique light and colour themes on the day so often I’ll edit a few just to let Andrew know how I imagined the final result to look . From these favs I’ll then post a few to our social pages (if we’re allowed) and then send them on to our bride and groom, so the pain of waiting can be over as soon as possible! Usually for our blogs I post images that tell the full story of the day but today, just because I love so many of them, here are Christie and Tyson’s full set of sneak peeks. Enjoy!

Christie and Tyson decided to have their photos first so they could relax later on and enjoy time with their guests. This meant we could travel a bit further afield for our creative time, which was mostly in the amazing Esk Valley (and also just down the road from there on my front lawn in Bay View!). Normally our edit style is all about reflecting the natural, real colours of the Hawke’s Bay landscape and keeping things timeless (like the photos above). But in the cactus grove (also near my place) and up up up the road above the valley, the landscape and rust-coloured dresses were calling for a more circa-2020 look which was super fun and really suited the moment.

Christie and Tyson’s venue, Church Road Winery, is pretty spectacular, though, so there was no way any of us were going to miss out capturing some of the creative spaces there (especially the underground wine caves), so we snuck away while the guests weren’t looking for a little session there after the ceremony, which was beautifully simple under the Magnolia tress on the large park-like lawn.
